Lemmy

No question about him deserving to be remembered on here.

Not only because of Phobia, Hardware and Pete recently posting that he considers Ace of Spades to be the greatest rock single of all times.

Time to play some Motörhead.

Very, very sad news indeed. I'm motörhead fan since 1981, ... a bad day today.

RIP LEMMY ... and play rock'n'rolll !

"That's the way I like it baby I don't wanna live forever"…

Reminds me about a disgusting NY Times piece about him, where the gist of it was "Yes, he's a rock legend and all that, but look at him, he's alone because he did not churn out rug rats like a good little one, he's Not Like Us Good Folks"… Something you would have expected from TV, the Voice of the Norm with its consume/marry/reproduce mantra, but…

and another one:

Tony always shines. But I identify him with his Warwick Streamer. Which, however, he only played towards the end of the Nephs. For most of the time he played a Rickenbacker. Nice, but not really memorable to me - until he recently posted this:

"R.I.P Lemmy, I was lucky enough to spend a few evenings in his company. I was also lucky enough to have one of his many rickenbacker basses (wish I still had it). The guy was a legend in the true sense of the word."

Haha...posts come and go...but...when the post has gone...and...I'm loosing sight...the memories won't fade...hence I'll forever remain a watcher...looking to see whether the light of truth outshines...so hoping that you...keep talking

As to the bass: I believe the Rickenbacker Tony played in 87 and 88 (and which I assume he was referring to) was a Tuxedo 4001. Not certain, though, and it appears to have had three control knobs instead of the usual four.

Good shot from FR here (at 3:27):

and here (2:03):

from the NY show a few weeks earlier (2:50):

and the Astoria in Nov 87 (1:15:18):

No idea what the bass he used before was. For the DR cover and the Preacher Man video see here (0:14):

The footage from Croydon 86 also shows Tony play this 4-string:
