The Nefilim, live at the Dalarock Festival, 1996.

Post by Mark Anthony Quested » Tue Jan 03, 2012 1:24 pm

A NGD member (he knows who he is) recently gave me an amazing quality recording - The Nefilim, live at the Dalarock Festival, Sweden, 13th July 1996. Not sure who recorded, what with, and how it became circulated amongst some fans, but it sounds like it was recorded directly off the mixing desk, such is the quality of the recording.

Still Life, Xodus, Penetration, Shine, Moonchild (abridged version), Dawnrazor, Pazuzu (Black Rain), Melt (the catching of the butterfly), Venus Decomposing, Zoon part 3, and Coma.

While editing this show, removing the gaps between tracks and some clicks, I was surprised to realize that the second source of this show has the radio DJ announcing the tracks over the end of Coma. He mentions Love Under Will and Last Exit for the Lost as being after Venus.

While it's likely he may have skipped some tracks to fit the show into a segment on the radio, it proves that the show was played back from a recording of the gig. Does anybody know which radio station recorded the show?

Also, are there any stealthy Swedes on this forum who can sneak into their local radio stations and rummage through their archives, please. :) A transcription of the entire show must exist, hopefully the radio station, which will own the copyright on their own recording, will be willing to share. Just a thought.

The BBC also broadcast it at about 1am on a weeknight on BBC Radio 1 rock show, mid week, in late 1996, though I think it was shorter than the one above. I don't have that tape anymore.

The BBC likely licensed that recording for broadcast, as I can't get my head around them sending an engineer and producer to the festival to record The Nefilim. The Swedish radio station in question is currently digitizing their archives (I'm told), so it may turn up in pre-broadcast quality sometime in the future. At least, I hope it does, as it pounds on all the other 'official' live releases.

I'm now uncertain about Love Under Will and Last Exit being included, as they apparently weren't performed. Don't know why they get a mention halfway through announcing the set-list though!
