Some threads on this forum have mentioned variations in the artwork on Nephilim CDs. In order to figure these out, I have put together a list of the different pressings. To begin with and to keep things simple, I have limited the below list to UK CD releases of Elizium (other albums are more confusing, but I'll add separate threads for them, and maybe also post on foreign releases, if there is any interest in this thread). Anyways, I am sure there are more pressings around than those listed below.

Please share the details if you have a version missing from the list!

It's been so quiet around here that it's not the best time to bring this up, but at least this is something most of us can chime in to. And maybe there are further Nephilim collectors apart from me also interested in CDs. I for one would very much appreciate any help in adding to the list!

All of these are UK Elizium CDs, i.e. all are released by Beggars Banquet (although all of these are UK releases, not all of the pressing plants are/were located in the UK).

So here's the list (some explanation below):

BEGA 115 CD; Nimbus BEGACD 115 [1 dot; no IFPI]; 5012093911526, w/ green heptagram on black CD surface

BEGA 115 CD; Nimbus BEGACD 115 [1 dot; etched: 1:8; no IFPI]; 5012093911526, w/ yellow heptagram on silver CD surface

BBL 115 CD; Nimbus BEGACD 115 [1 dot; etched: 1:8; --/2308]; 5012093911526, w/ yellow heptagram on silver CD surface

BBL 115 CD, Nimbus [logo] 7529 BEGACD 115 [2 dots; etched: 1:1; L122/2307]; 607618011529, w/ yellow heptagram on silver CD surface

BBL 115 CD, Nimbus [logo] 7529 BEGACD 115 [3 dots; unetched; L123/2308]; 607618011529, w/ yellow heptagram on silver CD surface

BBL 115 CD, Nimbus BBL 115 CD [2 dots; unetched; L125/2409 = Nimbus US]; 607618011529, w/ yellow heptagram on silver CD surface, w/out white credits

BBL 115 CD; Technicolor 7529 BEGACD 115 07 [small: 1:1; L122/2303]; 607618011529, w/ yellow heptagram on silver CD surface

BBL 115 CD; [Cinram; indirectly mentioned] WEA Mfg Olyphant X19815 Q9 BBL2 115.3-2 01 [etched: CI M0S1; L902/2U2O]; 607618011529, w/ yellow heptagram on silver CD surface, w/out white credits

BBL 115 CD; [3BC Ltd.; not mentioned] CD BBL115CD 04123-6858 [LU31/RZ01]; 607618011529, w/ yellow heptagram on silver CD surface

BBL 115 CD; Lynic BBL115CD 91777 01 [LU81/KA02]; 607618011529, w/ grey heptagram on black CD surface

BBL 115 CD; Sonopress Arvato [logo] 52328329/BBL115CD 21 [LB47/0788]; 607618011529, w/ grey heptagram on black CD surface

The entries are as follows: (1) catalog number; [(2) pressing company if not mentioned in matrix] (3) matrix [(4) further matrix band info]; (5) barcode, (6) further identifiers

(1) catalog number as found on artwork (rear inlay as well as disc surface print), only one change for Elizium for the UK pressings (from BEGA to BBL)

(2) pressing companies not mentioned in the matrix band can be identified if the CD comes with SID (i.e. IFPI) codes (first appearing in 1994)

(3) sometimes identical to the catalog number, sometimes a different alphanumerical code, sometimes the pressing company is mentioned in addition, with almost all of the early Nephilim pressings being done by Nimbus (in the matrix band usually saying: 'Mastered by Nimbus'; I have also abbreviated other info above, e.g. 'Lynic' is 'www.lynic.com' in the matrix band)

(4) various additional info can be included:
- dots after the matrix code (Nimbus used a system of dots to identify the mastering run, i.e. different number of dots = different master)
- etched or printed info on the pressing plates (e.g. 1:0) or the pressing company (e.g. CI)
- SID codes (usually miniscule, yet the most telling piece of info): first listed the mastering SID (identifier for the mastering plant, usually lasered into the matrix band)/subsequently listed the mould SID (of the code usually moulded into the clear part of the CD around the centre hole, only the first two digits are important as they identify the pressing plant)

(5) two different barcodes for the UK, the change does not fully correspond with the change in the catalog number (the latter barcode is technically a US code)

(6) UK Elizium CD releases come with at least four different disc surface artworks

e.g. for the last of the CDs listed above:
(1) BBL 115 CD
(2) -
(3) Sonopress Arvato [logo] 52328329/BBL115CD 21
the pressing company logo as pictured here:
https://www.discogs.com/de/label/268910 ... ess-Arvato
(4) mastering SID: LB47; mould SID: 0788
(5) 607618011529
(6) disc surface artwork: grey heptagram on black CD surface

That's all I can contribute. Any further variation on your Elizium CD?

I am adding the list of German Elizium CD releases since these have been widely distributed and there are many German members to this board. All of these have been released by SPV/Rebel Records. Entries as above, analogous to the scheme for UK CDs. A Russian pirate release with the same matrix as the the German Sonopress variant is also around (likewise for other Nephilim albums). Might mean it was manufactured with German pressing parts. Anyways, the latter is easy to distinguish, the most obvious identifier being that the title is misprinted as 'Elirium'.

SPV 084-30892; CDT-Berlin 84-30892 01 [no IFPI], w/ golden heptagram on black CD surface

SPV 084-30892; BOD SPV 076-30892 [--/5201], w/ golden heptagram on black CD surface

SPV 084-30892; SONOPRESS T-4404/ 076-30892 A [L022/0779], w/ golden heptagram on black CD surface

Any others? Like CDT-Berlin with SID codes? Or BOD without either or with both of the IFPI codes? Or any with different artwork?

Thanks for checking, Enoch! If you don't mind, would you share when you got this? I believe the different pressings came more or less in the order in which I listed them which would make Lynic comparatively recent. But this is only an educated guess.

Btw, the Lynic pressing of Dawnrazor comes with unique artwork and appears to be quite rare.

Anyway, I assume there are further Elizium pressings around. Possibly Nimbus variations, at least another Technicolor version, and then I have found pressings for almost all aother releases with a very long alphanumerical matrix which I couldn't match with any company so far.

So, who's got an unlisted variant?

I hope you're gonna put all the info into Discogs.com once you're done
Accurate date info would be great as many of the current entries state 1990 for things that are blatantly reissues.

I'd find it confusing if the entries showed the manufaturing/pressing date instead of the release date. It would be nice to have the former as additional info. Unlikely, though. Much of the data is confusing. Not spamming the board with all the technical details. PM coming. Also re Discogs. Helpful resource, but cleaning up all the Neph entries there would require a serious effort.

You'll find most of these on Discogs. Including pics of all the different disc surface artwork of the above.

The artwork changes for other releases are far more interesting. For Elizium it's primarily colour variation.

Or are you referring to the matrix codes? Some of these are also shown on the pics there. PM me if you're looking for anything you can't find there.

I do not remember exactly when I got the CD... it must have been after 2006 or 2007.

My copy of Dawnrazor is Lynic too, and I bought it before Elizium. Nice to know it is quite rare ;)
