Fields Of The Nephilim - Sumerland (What Dreams May Come)

Discuss about the albums and videos the band has released over the years. The band we are talking about here is of course F.O.T.N. and not side-projects, similar bands etc. Please use other sections if you want to talk about the weather.

Fields Of The Nephilim - Sumerland - Elizium Album Version - Sumerland (What Dreams May Come)
...
You're tempting me...
To all of life...
And all its pleasure...
Take me to the dream...
To the highs and the depths of my Soul...
Here we free... thoughts inside...
Giving up... for giving time...
But a world without end...
Where no Souls can descend...
There will be no Summertime...
How lost life's been
Afraid of waking up...
So afraid...
To take the dream...
Take the dream...
Take me...
Take the dream...
...
Shapes of Angels...
The night casts...
Lie dead but dreaming...
In my past...
And they're here...
They want to meet you...
They want to play with you...
So take the dream...
Take the dream...
Can't break free...
Can't break free...
...
And I hear them call...
They want to plague you...
They're here once more...
They want to lay with you...
They want to take you...
To the shame of your past...
Take the dream...
...
Take me... lead me far away...
Take there... there I'll fade away
But I can't hide
(But I can't hide)
But I can't hide... and I cannot die...
But I can't hide... and I cannot die...
I take the dream...
Take the dream...
We're the fools of our fate...
On this Earth I shall wait...
By the roots of my Soul...
I am loosing control...
Take the dream...
...
(Way we were)
...
(For me)
...
Sleepers in you...
Shapes of Angels...
So deep within you...
Feel your Soul...
Drowning...
Unloosen your Soul...
Drowning...
...
Tell me...
...
Drowning...
What is reality?
Tell me... what is reality...
Tell me... what is reality...
Tell me...
Tell me thoughts of God!
Do dreams fall from God?
Tell me what dreams may come...
Break free thoughts all gone...
We all come down!
...
Take me here...
Thoughts all gone...
Take me here...
All come down...
Tell me here...
What dreams may come...
Take me here...
Thoughts all gone
All come down...
All come down...
Take me...
I want to believe...
Take me...
I want to believe...
My ticket here...
Take me out of here...
Take me...
Take me out of here...
Take me...
Take me...
I want to believe...
Take me...
Take me...
Take me there...

Not too much to correct after all - I hope it helps you.

There are a couple of quotes on the bottom of the lyric sheet which may be of interest too. Though they are written after the final suite of WAIL OF SUMER/AND THERE WILL YOUR HEART BE ALSO

"we are the lost ones, in the company of bright angels.''

"stay not on the precipice with the dross of matter. for there is a place for thy image in a realm ever splendid." (the chaldean oracles of zoroaster)

Additional thoughts/insights on Sumerland and connections

"Giving up... for giving time...
But a world without end...
Where no Souls can descend...
There will be no Summertime..."

Sumerland - Carl McCoy

The Ancient Sumerians called their land, Sumer (Land Of The Gods) ... pronouncing it as *Shumer* ... and called themselves Sumerians, pronunced as *Shumerians* ... I perceive that Carl of course, has his own regressed/evolved & slant/insight from this on singing Sumerland (Land Of The Shining Gods) and pronounces Sumer as *Summer* ... so there is an extra meaning when writing and pronouncing Sumertime as *Summertime* ... "Periodical time was so profoundly important a subject of the early thought, and the orbs of heaven were demonstrators so *august* and glorious, that no conception of unfaithfulness, of failing in duty, of being treacherous to all trust, could have been embodied in more appealing or appalling imagery than this of the stars, the eternal watchers in Heaven proving false to the watchers on earth, who had trusted them for their periodic time; the luminaries themselves breaking the law of light and siding with the dragon of darkness, the akhekh monster of eclipse, the primal cause of all obstruction, disorder, and confusion in external phenomena!" - Mythological Origins Of The Fallen Angels." ...

"Fallen Angel, I return you...
[Laughter of the Father]
You'll shine now...
Heaven will shine no more...
Solitary without light...
Until that day...
Welcome home..."

Shroud (Exordium) - Carl McCoy

Also feel free to check the part I heard and now re-discovered:
(The way we were)
...
(For me)
...

I perceive you have already seen the art I attached.

Please do correct me/give me your thoughts and insights---and if you really feel/think differently---then by all means---please do tell me...

"Tell me... what is reality...
Tell me...
Tell me thoughts of God!
Do dreams fall from God?
Tell me what dreams may come..."

- Carl McCoy

The part: "You're my ticket here... Ticket out a here..." I hear very much; however, I wonder if he means *outer* or *out'a* or out'er here... Sounds like a name or reference. And makes me wonder if *ticket* is what he means, just like in "For Her Light" where "You stand on a platform... Your effigy... Dissolves in my hands..." and "Sunday park" makes it sound like a train trip to a field/church... However, my next lyrics coming up Zoon are: Sensorium | Subsanity | For Her Light ...

I really don't hear "The Sleeper's in you..." ... Remember Carl said he probably won't re-do Sleepers EP (people just refer to it as 'The' "Sleepers" EP) ... as he wants to move on with new material (yet may include other unreleased/rarities as bonus material in the future) ... though it may be *Sleepers'* ... yet of course we can continue this harder thread to nail it... (even though there were less corrections, this version is more complex with more hidden meanings and very subtle chanting/requiem like words; with a deeper significance; though I try not to compare the 2 versions of (Dreamed Version) and (What Dreams May Come) too much; as they are both, very different versions of the same song, yet excellent, Separate Masterpieces! Though it does provide a lot of insight adding it together...

Yes, I have all the CD's and CDS'S (Plus Special Edition of Zoon) and (used to have the cassettes yet kindly gave them to a friend) and also have the other Vinyl Version of Sumerland (Dreamed Version) | Moonchild (Please see my Moonchild Tour Live Thread as I need some enlightenment on it) ... Plus all the DVD'S and CD/DVD combos.
I have seen (the chaldean oracles of zoroaster) ... plus and study much more to quite some deep and high degrees. I'm really pleased you remind me...

"So deep within you... Feel your Soul..." 8)

Cool picture indeed. The Nefilim/Zoon album is my favourite album EVER. I look forward to reading your insights - once collated. I fear I won't contribute much as I tend not to read too much into things. That album is genius though, there are many interesting soundbytes overlaid in the mix.

I merely transcribed what was written for Sumerland in the liner notes of Elizium. I've always disliked the spelling vs pronunciation used but admit that SUMMERLAND does not look very Nephilimy at all. The picture of the Nephilim on a beach in Ibiza is quite interesting of course, sand in the flour in the sun cream notwithstanding... lol

Thanx man! Well I agree with you that The Nefilim/Zoon album is my favourite album EVER. I would say that Elizium is a perfect album too, which it is as The Classic Masterpiece Opus of FOTN. I also believe The Nephilim and Mourning Sun are very worthy contenders in the discography. Though of course much more credit is due on Nefilim 'cause amongst many things; it is even more unique and Carl did pretty much all the bloody work! Plus whilst it has amazing soundscapes and lite moments; it is also a lot darker and heavier! Indeed you will know more about my insights as our friendship continues. I also look forward to reading your continuing insights with wisdom through knowledge. You're welcome! I think we make a good mix as your musical excellence and high and deep knowledge goes well with my likewise research, lyrics, writings, regressions and insights etc.

I agree; and also whilst Fields Of The Nephilim have some wonderfully nice melodies and themes; they should go deeper darker harder and faster lol  I love my Special Edition of Zoon!! \\N//

Do you have the vinyl too? Do you know it's secret? *cthulhu*

I made a few remixes of the ZOON stuff. I could be persuaded to share them sometime.

I like Elizium, but Dawnrazor is much more my thing. The original version without the bonus tracks...

Interesting that we seem to be half the same on many views yet half different as well, which is good.

Watched recently the fairly recent impressive H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society film adaptions of The Whisperer In Darkness (2011) and from 2005: The Call Of Cthulhu!!! *cthulhu*

Alas I do not. Indeed a lesser known secret. I have seen it, love the expanded artwork on it. Not sure if the tracklist differs from the CD versions. Does it?

Remixes of Zoon? OMG I AM *notworthy*

Happy to share with you my knowledge of Ellep Island, the history, myths and legends and significance to Carl McCoy and his work and passion in Fields Of The Nephilim ... as I perceive I have no music to exchange in return. Does P.M.'s facilitate this? Of course, I am relatively still new to this forum and classed as a Moonchild,,, even though with my evidence in my posts, it is clear that along with my 25 years experience, I definitely like classing myself as a Psychonaut. Nephilim class sounds real dark and ominous lol ...

I'll look those films up - most of the Lovecraft adaptations have been enjoyable.

The vinyl has an additional, uncredited piece of music at the end of Penetration, it closes side 1. It's a 30 second synthesized 'doodle'. If you have any recordings from the 1993 tour it is present there too, also after Penetration - it did not survive to the 1996 tour.

The Nephilim have been my favourites since I heard the RTG EP in 1987. I've had a lot of time to acquaint myself with them. The generosity of some other Dawnrazor's on this forum is commendable, they helped me collect just about every live recording known to man.

@Tom: If you are reading this friend - take a bow please. *notworthy*

Yeah I messed with some tracks from ZOON. 24th Moment, Xodus, Pazuzu and Venus all had the digital scalpel applied to varying levels of success. *whistle*

The 2 films are excellent and my favourites out of all of them.

I have the Penetration CDS and it is the same length as the album version.
However the Xodus (Last Rites) on Penetration is 1 min 48 secs longer than on the Xodus album version.
Are you saying it begins on Xodus (Last Rites) ???

Listening to Nefilim Saturnalia '93 to check Penetration now.
So very interesting the differences between demo to live to studio etc.

Got into Fields Of The Nephilim in 1990 after getting Dawnrazor | The Nephilim | Earth Inferno
all at once and could not stop listening nor getting more ever since...
Of course Nephilim and Nefilim are my favourite (same main man lol) ...

Would love to hear your remixes... Sounds fascinating! :)

Er, I'm lost now.

The 33rpm record of ZOON has the untitled track. It's not part of Penetration, it's after it, and before Melt. and is not on either of the Penetration singles (FYI there are 2)

I don't know which performance was labelled 'Saturnalia'. I have Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Cologne, Hamburg, Potsdam and Bielefeld. It's on all of them between Penetration and Venus.

Potsdam '93 was Saturnalia. Thanx man, for all the info and pleasant, enlightening chats the last few days.

Yup, I knew about all the Penetration aspects, except the untitled 'interlude' and from what you've told me;
it is just on the live versions and the Zoon Vinyl you mentioned. Happy with knowing, it is very cool.

Enjoy the 2 films I recommended. I'll be back...

Quotes from documentary The Brain, a serie in 6 episodes of which I've only watched yet the first entitled : What is reality?

« In the outside world there is no colour, no sound, no smell. These are all constructions of the brain. Instead, there is electromagnetic radiation, air compression waves and aromatic molecules, all of which are interpreted by the brain as colour, sound and smell.
We meet a man who is blind despite the fact that he has eyes that can see. His story reveals that it's the brain that sees, not the eyes. A woman with schizophrenia, whose psychotic episodes were her reality, emphasises the fact that whatever our brains tell us is out there, we believe it.
Visual illusions are reminders that what's important to the brain is not being faithful to 'reality', but enabling us to perceive just enough so that we can navigate successfully through it. The brain leaves a lot out of its beautiful rendition of the physical world, a fact that Dr Eagleman reveals using experiments and street demonstrations.
Each one of our brains is different, and so is the reality it produces. What is reality? It's whatever your brain tells you it is. »

«No one's having an experience of objective reality of the world that really truly exists.
Instead each creature perceives only what it has evolved to perceive. And this isn't just about variation between species. »

«  if we're each experiencing a personal reality constructed inside our brains, how do I know that my reality is it all like yours ? Most of the time it seems like if we operate along the same lines, as if you and I agree what a blue sky is, as if the sound of a dog work provokes the same sort of response in both of us. »

« Reality differs from person to person. More than that it changes from moment to moment.
There are times in all our lives when it can seem in hence intensified. »

« Even the one great constante that we all think we share and which should never change somehow becomes stretched and distorted. I'm talking about time. »

« Technicolor show that is your reality. »

Perceptual time did slow seconds may seem to last weeks.
The answer seems to lie with how our memories are made.

« The brain is the universe's automate story teller. We believe whatever our brain serve up to us.
Reality we take for granted requires intensive training to interpret the world.
It takes time to process sensory information so we live in the past,
and because all that information is automatically just electric chemical signals to be sorted matched
rendered and packaged, reality is something created inside our head. »
