watchmen (and women) watching on webcams

Discuss about the albums and videos the band has released over the years. The band we are talking about here is of course F.O.T.N. and not side-projects, similar bands etc. Please use other sections if you want to talk about the weather.

watchmen (and women) watching on webcams

I think the music on the opening of this site sounds remarkably similar to the opening of the song "The Watchman"

"Sadly the tides are changing, my world slips out of you
Your body falls, my body calls, what are we to do
With a clouded view, you follow me through"

this does sound like a rather bad day at the beach :(

"Drowning people stare here, they don't care to call"

well as of yet I haven't seen any drowning haole tourists in the Waikiki surf but I'm gonna keep watching....

Or a roamantic dive for two via second sight

I translate this into my little truth in: if we dare wish instead of just staying focuse on our problems everything becomes possible.

Your body falls, my body crawls, what are we to do

Perhaps 'tides' is actualy 'times' also?

Im sure you are right on yours, those lyrics I posted were not my own interpretation but pilfered from a lyrics site. Ive noticed that most of the FOTN lyirics ive found on the web seem hopelessly wrong. one of the worst was on that Semijazz site or whaterver its called. for the song 'Subsanity' they put 'sun is hot on my head' and wrote a whole disertaion on why and what it means, but i'm farly certian the line is "sound hammers my head" . oh well 'sun's hot on my head' fits the beach much better so mabee i will go with that anyway.

Ive given up trying to figure out wth Carl is realy trying to say.
So ive decided to write my own lyrics to that song. here is my new version in keeping with that website.

Sadly the tides are changing , my board slips out of view
your body falls, my body crawls onto the beach
what are we to do, with a cloudy view , the skys not blue boo hoo
follow me to the lou , Ive got to do #2
follow me through
to honolulu

not very 'goth' I know  i'll have to write an original song instead about Pele melting down his studio.

 *notworthy* Your lyrics are cool as the place where you live by the sea. It makes a painting.

Semjaaza's lyrics (whose site is currently on reconstruction now) fitted well at the time. Hammering does fit better than hot however.

What he's trying to say? I think this song speaks of attempts to communicate through the distance and void and the problems of doubting of one's self sanity to do so, experimenting these sort of things not knowing whether they're true or not, illusion from an ill mind, surfing the limits of what someone can bear bouncing between the worst suffering from loneliness and euphoria of plain fusion/mental melting.
I think he's talking of talking with someone who is not there but whose speach is as real as any other speech for "real".

Subsanity

Subsanity ! I'm alive Subsanity like a burning fire
can you feel it sensorium sensorium what I feel sensorium
come in the fire
Subsanity sun/sound is hammering my head
subsanity feels like my head's knocked to the wall
sanity sanity I'm alive
filling the wound up
only you can turn one step away
sensorium sensorium sensorium
(there) isn't any word for what i feel
subsanity sun is hammering my head
subsanity
too late it feels like my head 's knocked to the wall
sanity sanity subsanity
i feel this..this time as never before
woman of flame what are the fires burning for ? Just a changeling ?
What's your name ? What do you feel ? It is a game ?
Subsanity sun/sound is hammering my head
subsanity
too late it feels like my head 's knocked to the wall as before where were you ?
Subsanity

well most of the lyrics are so general you can make up any meaning or structure you'd like.

To some lyricists they write lyrics it doesnt even have meaning to them, its just whatever pops into their head and comes out fitting the music. Perhaps thats why he says you cant separate the lyrics from the music, as if the music invokes the lyrics?

Ive often written stuff that just seems right even though I have a vague notion as to why or what it should mean lol I start out just singing notes and nonsence words and the real words evolve from that. Part of it is the nature of using the voice as a musical instument and conveying meaning with just sound and then trying to tag words, meanings and story to them. Like an artist using a method, just starting with abstract splotches of paint until the picture forms itself and come to look like something , born out of pure emotion , it takes on a life of its own. And it doesnt nessesarily have to have one solid meaning or even a definate one or story, it just has to have form.
Some of my stuff is just the opposite though and very much planned for a purpose and effect. But it still is born out a void of experimentation.

I wonder how he works, if he has very delibarate plan as to what each song is to be about and the exact nature of the lyrics or not?
