Re: Zoon - Ten Years on
When Zoon came out I was expecting it to be different from the FotN stuff. Oddly enough, I had more trouble getting into Mourning Sun. I guess that was because MS was the first cold album while all the others were more like desert, dust and hell?
When the Zoon came out, "Shine" and "Zoon (Part III)" were my absolute favourites. Maybe this was because they resembled more the old FotN stuff than the other songs. But most of all, I was just glad to hear that voice again, after trying to survive the time between Elysium and Zoon on Rubicon and Alien Sex Fiend records.
But I never got warm with "Still Life", "Xodus", "Penetration" or "Pazuzu". That is, until Bart Carl Rojewski successfully hammered "Penetration" into my brain with his strobe in Warzaw. Or maybe it was the Nephilim themselves that did it? Fact is, I was humming it for about a week after that.
And the other stuff from the Zoon: "Chaocracy", "Red 777", "Hollow Doll". Love it!!! And the "Sensorium" (aka. Subsanity) and "Zoon" variants from the "Genesis" bootleg. I have no idea how I could live without 'em.
These days, I sometimes find myself humming "Venus Decomposing", and it still gives me the creeps.

Re: Zoon - Ten Years on
It's an alright album with some amazing standouts like 'Zoon parts one to three, Melt and of course Shine' but thats it. I love metal but I just find some of the harder songs not that interesting compared to those three awesome songs.

Tomorrow's long with eternal night
Gather for tomorrow

Discover all of earth's surprises
When I'm gone wait here
I'll send my child my last good smile

Fundraiser. You know, it's like Hellraiser, but without the Cenobites, the blood and all that.

Not my cup of tea exactly, but shine is one of my favorite tracks ever.
Re: Zoon - Ten Years on
My first reaction to Zoon when I first got it was 'What the hell?!?"
I do remember liking Shine and Melt right away and I repeated those two many times, but I don't think I listened to the cd as a whole again until almost a year later.
THEN, after all those months, I gave it a good listen (whilst contemplating selling it off on ebay) and I was thoroughly blown away. Its one of my favorite albums and I still listen to it regularly, growling along with the music...except in Penetration cos that one still makes me giggle a bit, still a great song though...
ZOOON!
