Recreation versus procreation debate!

Post by Mark Anthony Quested » Tue Mar 29, 2011 8:54 am

I found this "debate" one the Daily Mail web site; of all places. I thought I'd share it.

(I am still formulating my own response to it!)

Why do people have sex?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/chat/ ... eadIndex=3

"The act of having sex is to reproduce. If you dis agree tell me why?
So why do people do it since they do not want to have children?
From the science and biology of reproduction this is what the function of sex is all about. The release of seminal fluid is the source of and the building blocks of life. Its aim is to fertilise the ovum in the female .. the act of bringing a new born has to be hijacked to feed the basic needs of some people who seem to have lots of time on their hands .. an entire industry of condoms and birth control pills and patches have been set up which remind us that this groundhog day ritual is not natural.
What is your thoughts...
PS:- For the Mod - anyone making this thread into a God or religious debte should be asked not to change the topic.. so again no god debate please.. just why?.. This is a psychological ..and pathological debate. Why do people repeat this need for a release of oxytocin which dullens and sickens the mind?"
Yours, aye!

I would say those who are having sex that isnt directly for the reasons of producing a child do so as it enjoyable,if you are in a long term relationship its the intimacy you share with your partner/soulmate.Whether you are in relationship or not the act of sex itself can be exhilarating, the physical sensations well of it isnt always that way but by + large its a mixture of being close to a person albeit in some cases temporarily + the pure pleasure that great sex can bring. Not wishing to bring the God/Religious aspect into this it does have some bearing as for many te act of sex for pleasure was frowned upon by many faiths,it was an act you 'went through/endured' to produce offspring, you werent supposed to enjoy it but it was almost a neccassary evil to produce children.Thankfully people are more enlightened + realise that sex can provide a variety of pleasures that dont have to involve the production of a child if that isnt their aim.
