Fields of the Nephilim are Quite Interesting

Post by Destroy Earth! » Tue Feb 23, 2010 7:42 pm

Not sure if this is deserving of its own thread, but Fields of the Nephilim were mentioned on last week's episode of QI. The current series is covering the letter G and one of the subjects of this particular show was all things Gothic.

It's on the BBC iPlayer here if anyone wants to watch it. The mention - it is nothing else - comes about seven minutes in when Jimmy Carr is trying to explain the difference between goth and emo to Jack Dee.

Yeah, I saw this too - quite gratifying and surprising that Jimmy Carr seems to know what he's talking about! 8)

Even if he does label the Sisters 'goth' as well...

Just that they don't want to be it doesn't mean they aren't :P

And the Sisters doing the M'era Luna Festival this year? A goth festival? I am shocked! Shocked!

hehe...he's trying hard not to be associated with the goth scene...but suddely wearing yellow shirts is like a bat trying to glue on feathers and announcing that it is a bird from now on...

The problem with Eldritch and the Sisters' canon is he's progressively reworking it into his own music.
Have a listen to a recent live version of "First And Last And Always", and it's all synth now. No longer
does it sport the celtic guitar phrases which drew me to it some...well...Almost 25 years ago now.

Eldritch should do the decent thing and simply pack it in now, and become a diplomat or get a job teaching Chinese.
If the Sisters' were a joke when they put out "Vision Thing", they're the musical equivalent of The Chuckle Brothers these days.

Fields of the Nephilim are Quite Interesting, if only because they made me discover a "new" musical intrument and laugh at imagining Carl exploding a vibraslap. Here is an insight -more or less- of how it plausibly happened. Watch Joe Hanson vibraslap solo : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fYyFsOYzVA

I got it from Dragon @ Semjaaza.com's article, via the page entitled "neph quotes" http://www.semjaaza.com/quotes.html
