I recommend it as well.
It's got some lovely photos in it, which were very enjoyable, but I wondered if anyone else found the writing a bit basic. I realise that I still pine for the hyperbole of the big music papers, but it seemed particularly pedestrian and simple in style.
Still, Carl's interview was one of his better ones and Andrew Eldritch is always good for a laugh. The CD is all right too.

No, no, no, no! I always found Paul Wright's haircut and his concentrated work on the guitar far sexier than Carl McCoy.Mark Anthony Quested wrote:our favourite sex symbol, Carl McCoy

I think you may be in a minority there! Plus I don't believe Carl doesn't know that he is regarded as a sex symbol in some quarters. He's just being coy.
The magazine also Peter Murphy being a bit of a tool, but nothing new there.

Fundraiser. You know, it's like Hellraiser, but without the Cenobites, the blood and all that.

Why choose between them? For that matter, I've always rather fancied Peter Yates.markandre13 wrote:No, no, no, no! I always found Paul Wright's haircut and his concentrated work on the guitar far sexier than Carl McCoy.Mark Anthony Quested wrote:our favourite sex symbol, Carl McCoy

Thanks for reminding me this was out - went straight out and bought meself a copy.
Like the CD very much so far - not just the usual suspects, which is nice.
I think it's the first time I've read McCoy say that 'the voice' was caused by burning his throat when he was young, and not from him channelling Cthulu, or something...
Unless he's just being, as was mentioned above, (Mc)coy.

It was worth buying, but my one major disappointment is that feature on Fields of The Nephilim and Carl is just too damn short, whereas Sisters of Mercy and The Mission are far longer. The CD was as usual with these magazines also wasn't all that great either. Otherwise it was really great, and I really enjoyed the article on The Cult and the article on The Damned's truly fantastic 'Phantasmagoria' album as well.

@Wolflover I enjoyed the Cult article too and the cool fact that the woman on the cover of Phantasmagoria is Nick Cave's wife.

“The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.”
Re: The Cure ant the story of the alternative 80s music
I've only had a chance to skim through it, and read the first couple of interviews/articles in detail. The writing is a bit variable - I think the magazine as a whole isn't quite sure if it's aimed at hardcore fans or at people who are new to this kind of music and want a primer on it.xseawitch wrote:I recommend it as well.

I found the Andrew Eldritch interview really entertaining - I actually find myself kind of liking the cranky bastard. (Even if I wish he'd just go on and release an album already. Or even just stick some mp3s up on the Sisters website for download.)
