Carol Clerk R.I.P.

Post by Charley Silver » Tue Mar 16, 2010 4:37 pm

Sadly Carol Clerk the UK writer lost her battle with cancer over the weekend. Some of you may remember her work for Melody Maker in the 80s and 90s and notably many articles with FOTN. They were always favourable, relying upon her to avoid the lazy 'cowboy / mechanic / cockney / sisters rip-off' cliches which often resulted in a more open and insightful debate with McCoy.

Here's an article from 1989 around Psychonaut time.

You can tell that she truly enjoys the Neffs' music and company - a few of us suspected Carol had a bit of a crush on McCoy.

Don't know much about where she went from then on but let's hope it's peaceful where she is now.

Bye Carol. Your articles are breathing live. If there's an afterlife, I hope that you'll meet Hunter S. Thompson. The doctor will like you.

Here's another wonderful article: One For The Road - Carol Clerk Gets Banned From Israel With Hanoi Rocks.

Sorry to learn she's passed away. :(
I recall reading that interview when it came out - great stuff! :D

I always liked her work in MM and that of Jennifer Nine.

The only music weekly left in the UK is the NME and it seems to me that there's a lot less "personality" about the staff these days.

only just heard about Carol's passing

i worked for her at the Melody Maker newsdesk for a coupla months between 1990/91. happy times, and Carol was always encouraging about my writing. we all had a blast at the Fire Festival gigs i remember. Carol was awesome, pure and simple. her writing was top notch and will long be remembered.

RIP Carol x

Great article. *notworthy* RIP Carol.
If you pass through my soul tonight
Gather all his troubles
Tomorrow's long with eternal night
Gather for tomorrow
When I'm gone wait here
Discover all of earth's surprises
When I'm gone wait here
I'll send my child my last good smile
